Earth, Temperature distribution

The temperature distribution through the Earth is mainly constrained by the seismological observations of which regions are solid and which are liquid - i.e., which regions transmit shear waves and which do not (Figures 15 and 17 ). Thus, the average temperature in the solid crust and mantle must be lower than the melting point of rocks that make up these regions. Similarly,
